What are Power Brows?

Power brows are a semi-permanent cosmetic makeup technique that creates soft, powdered eyebrows resembling a makeup effect. This technique uses a shading method done with a hand tool or machine similar to a tattoo gun to produce the powdered effect.

Power brows are ideal for individuals with oily or mature skin who desire a soft, subtle makeup look. The technique involves creating darker tails while lightening the beginning of the brows for a softer appearance. Individuals with sparse eyebrows or those who use eyebrow makeup to cover them up are excellent candidates for power brows. Thinner brows can also have additional hair strokes to add texture to the brows.

The results of power brows can last up to 2-4 years, depending on the individual’s skin type and lifestyle.

How Are Power Brows Done?

Power brows are done using a small needle to put pigment into the eyebrow skin using a quick hand motion to produce a pixelated effect of powder makeup. If you want to add density to the brows, the pixels can be added repetitively to produce eyebrows that seem drawn using a pencil or pomade. The shading technique is done to layer the pixels so they won’t appear denser and darker than the natural eyebrow hair. It results in natural-looking beautiful eyebrows.

Who is a Good Candidate For Power Brows?

Power brows are particularly recommended for those with oily or mature skin who prefer a soft makeup appearance. Those with sparse eyebrows who use eyebrow makeup to cover it up are also good candidates for power brows.

Additionally, those with thinner brows can have additional hair strokes to provide additional texture to their brows. People with various skin types can try power brows, but those with oily or mature skin will particularly benefit from this technique.

Who is Not a Good Candidate for Power Brows?

  • Individuals with medical conditions like bleeding disorders, cancer, cardiac problems, diabetes, epilepsy, skin problems, viral infections, and vitiligo.
  • Pregnant women
  • Organ transplant recipient
  • Individuals with high blood pressure
  • Individuals that are taking blood-thinning medications

What Are the Benefits of Power Brows?

  • Power brows are perfect for different skin types unlike microblading which does not work for individuals with oily skin
  • Eyebrows appear fuller and more defined
  • Can last longer than microbladed brows
  • The ombre powder technique is a less invasive procedure
  • Less painful than microblading
  • Semi-permanent cosmetic procedure

How Many Sessions are Typically Required for Power Brows?

Typically, clients will experience great healing results after the first session with shading. A complimentary touch-up is offered after 6-8 weeks to make sure the brows look great and the color is even throughout the eyebrow, or if the client wants to add more density to them. Most clients only require these two sessions to achieve the desired result, but additional touch-ups may be needed depending on individual skin type and lifestyle.

What Are the Aftercare Instructions For Power Brows?

  • Avoid working out or sweating too much
  • Avoid touching and peeling off the scabs and just allow them to fall off naturally.
  • Do not apply makeup on the eyebrows for 12-14 days to allow them to heal properly.
  • Avoid too much sun exposure.
  • Do not undergo any facial treatments for 12-14 days.
  • Do not take long and hot showers.
  • Do not wash your face using harsh facial care products. You can wipe the eyebrow area using a cotton pad.

Power brows are recommended for individuals with sparse brows. Hair loss of the eyebrows can occur due to a lot of factors such as:

  • Hormonal changes – as a person grows older the body experiences hormonal changes
  • Genetics – Some individuals have naturally thinner and sparse eyebrows than others
  • Nutritional deficiencies – Fatty acid deficiency can cause eyebrow hair loss. Biotin deficiency can result in thinning of hair and loss of body hair.
  • Overplucking and extensive removal of eyebrows
  • Natural aging of the hair follicles

Cosmetic products like eyebrow gel, pencil, or powder can be used to correct sparse eyebrows but it can be difficult to find the right color to match the natural look of the eyebrows. It can be frustrating to some because you have to spend time filling in both brows and making sure that they are even looking.

How Can You Maintain Your Power Brows?

After your initial session with shading, your brows may appear thicker and darker than the desired result. However, don’t worry as the color will become 50% lighter after 4 weeks. It is recommended to get a yearly touch-up to keep your power brows looking fresh and natural.

To maintain your power brows, it is important to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight as this can cause fading of the pigment. It is also important to follow aftercare instructions provided by your technician, which may include avoiding certain activities like swimming and applying skincare products near the eyebrow area.

Lastly, natural fading can occur due to internal factors like the gradual breakdown of pigments in the body. The rate of fading varies for everyone and can be affected by factors such as skin type and lifestyle. So, it’s essential to take good care of your power brows to ensure they last as long as possible.
